Fafi for MAC

I love love love special edition make-up products because they tend to look better and be more creative and fun. This is especially the case for the MAC Fafi product line. I normally wouldn't include an entry about beauty products I haven't tested out, and I didn't receive anything to test from Fafi (Cruel Fafi, don't you realize I'm a beauty addict?). But I'll happily make an exception, if only for the crazy little characters on the packaging.

Fafi is the French artist from Toulouse who created the cute chick-a-boom characters for the Fafi make-up line. According to her, a Fafi girl is "a nymphette with a Ph.D. in passion – she’s an adventuress with a very animated love life! From Toulouse to Tokyo, the movie of her life is a rags-to-riches love story, an electric Technicolor dream in violet, coral and strawbaby anime." Now that's a fun life philosophy, don't you think? It makes me want to put on the make-up and go party, preferably in some exotic part of the world.

Says MAC's creative director, James Gager: "MAC has its pulse on fashion, trends, art, the youth culture and what's happening on the streets and in the world. The Fafi collaboration embodies our connection with the world of art, and fuses MAC's philosophy that make-up should be about play, experimentation, and making customers feel good and have fun." Well, fun is the least you could say about these new products. I get greedy just from seeing the pictures, so what would happen if I actually tried on the products? I know from experience MAC stands for TOP quality, so the mix of fun and high standards seems like the perfect match to me! I'm especially curious about lipglass, since MAC has such an outstanding reputation when it comes to glossiness.

One more quote from Fafi herself I just have to share with you because it characterises the feeling of the line in a very original way: "I have always been crazy about black mascara! I think if there was just one piece of makeup I was allowed to take on a desert island that would be it. I would use some fruits for my lips and cheeks!" Now that is a rocking view on beauty, if you ask me. Sure, beauty products are addictive and fun and pretty and sometimes even necessary, but it's nice to have someone from the inside relativize the products she's promoting. Just pick up a strawberry, when you're out of lipgloss people!

The Fafi products for MAC are available at MAC stores from March until May. There's one in Antwerp (Schrijnwerkersstraat 21-23), and in April another one will open in Brussels (Charleroisesteenweg 9).
