Pink is the new pink
Last spring, Proenza Pink lipstick, as it was dubbed by the fashion crowd, a Lancome bubblegum pink eighties revival - was so in demand, it was auctioned on ebay for multiple times its retail value.
This season, the it lip colour is indeed brighter and less bubbly, and thus more flattering, but is still definitely pink.

The Proenza Pink overhaul
In terms of picking the shade that's right for you, if you have fair or dark skin, its safer to stick with bluish undertones, and tans or olives with brown undertones.
And while it is always optimal to keep the eyes quiet if the lips are loud, pink is not as offensive as red. One can experiment more with colour without looking like a hot tranny mess.
For instance, the below looks taken from the MAC website illustrate how one may sucessfully achieve such a look.

Still, my preference remains with the subtle kohl-rimmed eye and statement lip combination.

While there are many shades of pink, at all price points, a splurge may be justified for a rich-looking, quality product like Armanisilk #4 - a saturated bluish, bright pink.
And if there were any doubts over whether Proenza Pink has surpassed its moment, Lindsay Lohan was recently spotted wearing a similar iteration.
