Alexander Wang on the film that changed his life, Clueless

'I think the cultural impact that this West-Coast high-school movie had on viewers my age was huge. People underestimate the power of films like this, but sometimes the more light-hearted and simple things are in life, the better.'

I could not agree more. Even better, Henry Holland admitted Pretty Woman was the film that awoke his fashion consciousness. The shopping spree on Rodeo Drive, I think, is every modern-day gal's Cinderella fantasy.

But back to Clueless.

Like Empire Records or Reality Bites before it, Clueless is a movie that influenced a generation. Mine, in fact.

Before Clueless, 'whatever', 'as if!', and 'like-' were not, for better or worse, stand-alone statements. Maybe it's more a North American phenomena, but I have to make a conscious effort not to slip in a 'like' before describing anything! For some, it's an effort not to between every two words!
