Tom Ford womenswear pegged for fall 2010, Gaultier for Targét, and Jolie in Gucci saga
Some noteworthy tidbits of fashion news passed while I was in my cold-induced coma the past couple days.
First and foremost comes word that Tom Ford will officially launch a womenswear line. However, this is merely intention at this point, as there still remains to be financing. Am not really sure what the hesitation is, though, considering Tom Ford is about as safe an investment a fashion financer could make in this economy. Everything the man touches is gold. Hell, the man can sell $990 14-karat jeans!
Am not sure what direction the line would take aesthetically, considering we haven't seen womenswear from Tom since YSL Rive Gauche and his black Gucci days. But we do know that it will be sublimely executed, as Tom is, above all, a perfectionist.
I remember watching a TV segment on FashionTV (I think!) where Tom was interviewing contemporary artist Jeff Koons. It was interesting to see him genuinely in awe of someone else. I get the feeling this does not often happen. Next time it replays (which it inevitably will), make sure to watch it.
Second, following in the footwear of Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui, JP Gaultier will be releasing a Target capsule collection next spring. Expect +/-$20 cone-bras, corsets, and catwoman-esque gear.
Have to admit, though, I am a little more excited for the Rodarte collaboration. Gaultier is a little more accessible, but I fear this may be the only opportunity for me to afford Rodarte anything.
And finally, the Jolie is in talks to play Maurizio Gucci's ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiano, in Ridley Scott's (Gladiator) new Gucci biopic. Reggiano was convicted of plotting Gucci's murder and sentenced to 29 years in jail. Sounds like another alpha-female role for Angelina. It would be interesting to see her in a romantic comedy for a change. Maybe one revolving on a man falling in love with another woman while married to a girl next-door-type.
Scott is also talking to Leonardo DiCaprio about playing Maurizio, but lets hope this doesn't come to fruition. I know the guy is Italian ('DiCaprio') but he has blonde hair and blue eyes! Might as well cast Will Smith.
