Has New York fashion week lost its 'new'ness? London designers think so, and stay put
In the past, London designers that have reached a certain level of success have moved their fashion presentations to New York or Milan, and up the hierarchy, if you will. Paris being the ultimate destination, as reached by McQueen or McCartney, or, most recently, Gareth Pugh.
However, with so much concentrated talent coming out of London these days, much accredited to Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Fashion - we are seeing a migration of Londoners back to London.
Set for the September lineup, back are Burberry (from Milan), Pringle of Scotland (also from Milan), and Matthew Williamson (New York).
Hell, even Belgians are jumping on the London bandwagon. One of our most promising new labels, Peter Pilloto, bypassed Paris and went straight to London for its debut.
I too would want to be in the company of Christopher Kane, Roksanda Ilincic, and Hannah Marshall.
